Pashupatinath is a Hindu temple located about 3 km northeast of Kathmandu city on the banks of Bagmati River. With its astounding architectural magnificence, it stands as a symbol of religion, tradition, faith and culture. The existence of this temple dates back to 400 AD and it is one of the most scared temples for Lord Shiva in the world.
This temple is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temple is built in pagoda style and the two level roofs are copper with gold carvings. Also, the temple has a gold apex which is a representation of religious thought. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple, and for Hindus, to be cremated at Pashupatinath means a direct passage to heaven. Non Hindu’s can view the temple from the opposite banks of the river.
