Bhaktapur Durbar Square has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. Within the square one can find the 55 window palace, which served as a seat of royalty prior to 1769. In the 18th century the last Malla king of Bhaktapur built the Big Bell located inside Durbar Square. The bell is rung twice a day as a mark of respect to the Goddess Taleju. There are two other temples inside the Square, the Yakshewor Mahadev Temple built in the 15th century by King Yaksha Malla, and the Phasi Dega Temple, which offers an extensive view of the entire city. Both the temples are devoted to God Shiva.
